"Gum disease" is a public term used to describe a periodontal disease. The word periodontal (around the tooth) explains better the types and limits of the disease.

PD (Perodontal Disease) is a bacterial infection that affects the gums and the bone supporting the tooth. Unfortunately, many people are unaware that they even have this problem. Here is a list of sings and symptoms of PD to tell if it is a problem for you.

The first sign of PD is a persistent "bad breath". This is a preventable and treatable problem. According to observations, the usual cause of bad breath is periodontal disease but it can also be caused by underlying medical problems such as liver, kidney or some other sistemic diseases.

The healty gum can be described as "natural pink" or "salmon pink" in color and it has a nice sharp tapered form. A change to a more reddish color or a swollen less tapered form can be signs of the PD.

Spontaneous bleedings or bleedings when brushing, flossing are not characteristic for the healthy tissue.

If you notice a non lokalized pain during chewing, that is usually a sign that gum disease is advanced.

Existence of mobile tooth or teeth, a change noticed in the gum level, spaces between the teeth that were not there before are clear signs of an advanced periodontal disease.
